Minister prioritises 'faith-based' organisations with dormant accounts money
The Minister for Finance has announced his intention to channel dormant accounts funding in Northern Ireland as loans to social enterprise activity in 'faith based' organisations and for work with children. It is expected that between £800,000 and £1.3m is available for this year.
In an answer to a question in the Assembly, the Minister of Finance Sammy Wilson has indicated that up to £1.3million will be made available to groups who for ethical reasons will not access the Big Lottery Fund and towards work with children.
The Minister expressed a hope that funds would be released early in this financial year but also said that funds could be carried over until the next financial year. The Minister did not want to name one organisation responsible for chooing successful projects but indicated that an organisation that finances social enterprises would be better placed to judge the viability of recipient loan applications.
